A story about being heard

Students are tasked with writing a short essay about a situation in which they felt heard. The assignment is supported by a slide show about the 2025 Rights of the Child theme.


Assignment:

Students are to write a short essay about a situation in which they felt heard. To give context to the assignment, the teacher will go through the 2025 slideshow (pdf), which explains what being heard can mean in different situations.

Students should describe what happened, how they were heard and how they felt at the time. They can also describe an imaginary situation.

Writing prompts:

  • What was the situation in which someone listened to you? (e.g. at home, at school, during an activity)
  • Who listened to you? (e.g. a parent, teacher, friend)
  • What did you say?
  • How did the listener react to what you said?
  • How did it make you feel that someone was listening to you?
  • Did something change after you had been heard?
